Le Taha’a Private Island Resort & Spa

Taha’a, French Polynesia

For your honeymoon, your second honeymoon or even your third honeymoon, I cannot imagine a more romantic spot that Le Taha’a Private Island Resort and Spa. This five year old Relais & Chateaux resort is magical.

The staff of Le Taha’a meets you at the airport in their launch and whisks you past the islands of Raiatea and Taha’a to their own offshore motu and dock. 60 luxurious, freestanding accommodations, both over-the water and beachside villas, await you. The atmosphere is pure thatched-roofed Polynesian, updated with the most modern of amenities. The beach villas include sunken outdoor bathtubs, outdoor dining areas, and their own plunge pools. The over-the water bungalows are beautifully decorated and have wrap-around decks with steps leading down to the water. And the water…
Le Taha’a is adjacent to one of the area’s finest coral gardens for snorkeling. A short walk takes you into 5’ deep turquoise blue water where you can drift through an underwater aquarium and enjoy a myriad of species of coral and tropical fish. If snorkeling isn’t of interest, you can nap in one of the beachside hammocks or cool off in the infinity pool that looks out to neighboring Crab Island, where the resort holds its wedding ceremonies.

If you aren’t relaxed enough by the time you’re finished drifting and lounging, perhaps you need a visit to the resort’s award-winning Manea Spa, where several of their rooms are open-air couple’s treatment areas that overlook the water. Need more activity? The resort also has tennis courts and kayaks available and will arrange for hiking, Jeep safaris and other excursions.

Dining options at Le Taha’a include La Plage, a casual beach restaurant next to the pool, Vanille, an open-air dining room that is built into the trees and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Ohiri, a fine dining 18 person gourmet restaurant featuring French/Polynesian cuisine (dinner only). You can also have your breakfast delivered to your over-the-water bungalow by canoe.

Romance in paradise is not inexpensive. Room rates at Le Taha’a begin at $1000+ per night, but for a few days of absolute bliss, are well worth it. www.letahaa.com
